I don't like Rust, in fact I hate it, but I'm seriously considering starting a Rust User Group where I charge a fee for people to join, have no code of conduct at all, have a contest where people make the funniest distortions of the Rust logo, and only allow people that carry in the group. In fact, I would have the group contribute to a closed source project where we reimplement cargo and rustc but in C instead of Rust.

  3.  @wayland7150  It's refreshing to see people in tech who are even aware of these things and don't ignore them, let alone that also support the opposite. After all, self defense is a right and if someone attacks you in a group with a semi-auto rifle and plenty of mags at hand, shouldn't you be able to arm yourself to defend your life and the lives of your group?

  5. Personally, I'd suggest you learn C or maybe even C++ instead. Go is even worse of a language even if it has better ideologues behind it, but note that I'm not saying they're good, just better than Rustaceans. If you go the C++ route, you can write code that's easy to read, easy to write, and is just as safe as Rust claims to be, just follow best practices for writing it. Maybe watch Jason Turner's channel if you go for C++.

  6. Well, to be fair the warning signs were there given the outright toxicity of the community. And quite frankly, I'm sick of seeing every project rewritten in Rust only to have less functionality and more bloat while being gaslit with, "but it's faster than what it replaces". Sure, faster because it does half the work, or none of it in cases like ripgrep despite Rustaceans telling me how great it is.

  7.  @dynfoxx  JavaScript was not derived from Java, and it was developed in every way before Oracle bought Java from Sun. So if anyone ever asked Oracle if they could use the trademark then they're an idiot.

  13.  @AlucardNoir  Admittedly I've never read the terms of service that deeply, but if that's in there, then it's a completely understandable reaction and makes me think twice about posting any videos.
