  2. So very much yes to the square title bar buttons that extend to the edge. I hate every app that I can't pull my mouse to the upper right corner and just click to close. Best I can say about them is that at least most use ctrl-q to close, but not all.

What I'd like to see is all the DE's and WM's and X itself wiped out, then a standard base designed and documented and a reference implementation created that wrote everything to standardized configuration files. Maybe even done up as an all-encompassing library, sort of like old Windows did with gdi32 and all the other Win32 components, and all in bog standard C, like adhering to C99 or earlier. Unfortunately, it won't happen because there are too many that have mental cancer these days and they'd want to write it in trendy language $foo and they'd want to take it in this alternative direction, or they'd want to add their own extensions, all kinds of bullshit. However, the biggest stumbling block would be that every single program would need to be updated to use the new GUI library, every single one. I guess I need to add "write operating system" onto my project list. I think that's item one thousand and thirty three now.

  5. I think people gave up on them when they caved to MicroSoft's threat. Not because of the caving, mind you, but because of the threat itself. I personally would have stuck to my guns if I were in their position and left it as wxWindows.
