  1. You're so right about crazy US shipping. Every external spinning disk hard drive I've had over the years has failed on me relatively quickly. Made backing up a massive pain, but I decided to order two SSD's instead this past time, 4tb each and they arrived the next day. Put them in an external enclosure, so I can swap them to internal if I feel like it later, and USB3 is one of those very nice to have features on a computer. It took less than an hour to back up my whole /home which is a 1tb drive. Makes me feel so much better now having a decent backup solution. Hopefully now I won't have to start from too far back if the internal drive fails because I've got a lot of projects going.

  3. If you're only backing up once and have a lot of time to swap discs over and over and over again, and as long as you use M-Disc as some others have suggested, then that would be fine. But consider that a dual layer Blu-Ray gives you something like 50gb and most people now days have at least 1tb in their computer.
