  1. Well, each project that applies would only get 2500 of that, and as individual developers that's a decent chunk of change. If you're living within your means, that may be an entire month. If you're living tiny, maybe 3 or 4 months. That's not nothing. As well as doing good can and often does inspire others to do good. I say, great and more power to them and if a person can they should hopefully feel motivated to help.

  2. Hopefully it's guilt over using so much OSS and not following the license agreement that is motivating Microsoft to do what they've been doing lately. Though, I don't have much hope that that's the case given past FUD and EEE.
