This gives me a smidgen of hope for the future. Open source needs to catch on with the masses, and if Mac users in any way catch on to Linux, it may spread to everyone. After all, they are often deemed the cool crowd, the artistic types.

My hope is that in the future copyrights only last for 14 years as they were originally intended by our founding fathers when they wrote it in the 1790's. As well I'd hope that hardware developers write clean and open documentation so that anyone who buys it can use it to its fullest potential. It's not a very likely thing, but I'm going to keep hoping for it.

@AsahiLina Patent law still applies here. Thankfully patents still expire and my point about copyright law stands. We need to revert back to the lifespan of copyrights in the 1790's. Although, as far as reverse engineering is concerned, pretty sure it's not illegal regardless of copyright or patent.

@AsahiLina True, but the reverse engineering itself isn't illegal, and I'd love to see someone fight it in court and win even on the so-called infringement if the design is sufficiently different. Although that wouldn't apply here, I'd still like to see the law challenged in this way.
