I'm both young and old enough to have been taught both systems, so converting between the two is easy. That said, the intuition only makes sense in Imperial because it does still somewhat relate to human-scale measurements. Most will never understand a mile or a kilometer, but inches and feet are easier to visualize and understand than centimeters and meters. If there was an easy to use clean unit that was exactly a third of a meter, then the system would make more sense, but it's just as arbitrary as Imperial and the only thing it has going for it is that conversion between scales is a simple movement of the decimal point. However, unless you're measuring past 100 yards or meters, there's no point in using the metric system. A lot of the modern changes that they keep pushing on our systems of measurement are just pointless and dumbing society down. We'd be better off just sticking to what we have and refining our education system to adequately teach people how to use it.

The weird thing is they later changed the basis for what a meter is based on the distance traveled in a vacuum by light to an insanely tiny fraction, and they've also since used that as the basis for Imperial measurements in the US by exactly equating 2.54cm to 1in. I don't know when they did that, but it's been so long that it's honestly irrelevant as the length of an inch is still intuitively better than trying to think of anything in centimeters versus meters. I've seen that the majority of people that only know the metric system seem to have less intuition and an inability to convert figures in their head. It's a weird effect that it seems to be dumbing down society at large by making it easier to convert scales anyway. And now I'm seeing that some "scientists" want to convert our calendar and the changes they made were to stop calling it BC and AD and instead call it BCE and CE. It's rather childish and stupid because the whole intent is to get away from religion, but they forgot that all of our months and days of the week are also based on some religion. Of course, they don't want to eradicate those long dead religions, just the one that still exists and they hate.

@sststr Exactly, all measurement systems are arbitrary, and while humans aren't exactly consistent in measurements, it's still better to use something relatable to their lives. I can kind of get that a Jewish person would want to get away from using BC and AD, but it's exactly the same calendar, so that's pointless. Every time I've asked someone why they used BCE and CE over BC and AD, it's always been "for science".
