I've never bought a new car. Never will.

@Samosayummyyay And so your argument is what? That people in one country typically lease? Generally, businesses will lease if it's more cost effective, but not all, not even a third will. Most businesses will outright buy, and sure, new cars, but they'll keep using them for years, potentially decades depending on the business. Individuals for the most part buy used.

@Michaah Fine, if you're not saying you'd force people to do your bidding, then sure, add infrastructure to enable all methods of transportation. But don't discount those who are unable to bike, there are more than you think and they shouldn't be ignored just because they're not as capable as you or I.

This was a real bad take Marton. You completely misconstrue useless data as being useful to the calculation and you average things wrong. You also misunderstand taxes and the cost of infrastructure. For one, a parking space isn't being maintained the same way a regularly driven road is. You're not going to have thousands of cars driving over that parking space day after day until it has holes in it. A single car will drive on, stay all day and drive off, or in the case of night parking it'll be empty all day and parked on only overnight.

@toms8812 That's another good point. If people drive their own cars less to instead take the bus, then we'll have more bus traffic which means the roads will require more maintenance. Since cars and their one to four occupants weigh less, the road is damaged more slowly. Not even all the people in a given city can bike to work, and in super cold winters they won't. All the talk of biking just seems like he's pushing for his sponsor.

@toms8812 Exactly what I was thinking.

@Michaah Would these be black gloves and brown jacket? Because that's what you sound like. And no, there would be no public health benefit.
1
@Michaah Ah okay, so you know what's best for people and thus you will force them to do your bidding and own no cars? Do you really NOT SEE what's wrong with this idea? Are you going to bake people who disagree?

@Michaah Oh okay, let's address the health point. If people biked to work, assuming they're physically able to do so, it would make them healthier. However, do people care? Do they want you telling them what they should and should not do for their health? Nope, they don't. What's more, if they're not physically able, what are you going to do? Surely you wouldn't suggest getting rid of such people, right? Right!?
