  3. 1st-the organization isn't a person. The people in the organization (including whoever is doing the preaching) can still vote. By your logic corporations paying taxes would give them a right to try and control the government. 2nd-Churches get a tax-exempt status on the condition that they remain nominally non-political (though there is no way for a religion to be truely non-political). It's quite simple to argue that promoting discrimination is an inherently political act that should loose them said status. (I'm personally rather tepid on the proposal, admittedly, but there is a solid foundation there to make that argument)

  4. I'm ok with churches being tax-exempt if they open their books and show they're meeting the standards of running as a non-profit that we require of any organization that we give a tax exempt status to.

  5. So by your logic, corporations paying taxes gives them a right to control the government? Sorry, that's a complete non-sequitur. Also, the constitution says nothing about exempting churches from taxes. We remove tax exempt status from churches already for a list of political actions. Adding some forms of discrimination to that list (while a policy I'm very tepid about) isn't really any kind of stretch.

  6.  @macaron3141592653  the Catholic church (for example) rakes in a lot of money. It just funnels it up the ecclesiastical hierarchy.
