The 2016 primary had all sorts of rigging including illegally purging voters from the rolls which was plead guilty to in court allong with a pile of other problems and circumstantial evidence for a whole lot more. Every half-way functioning democracy would throw out that election and redo it with only half of what we saw about it. If you saw that the 2016 was legit, you're either incredibly un/misinformed on the facts, or are still thinking like a serf. Election integrity is what seperates citizens from subjects. It is non-negotiable!

  2. Flip that on it's head for a second; why would it be good for a party to exclude people from their primary who will be critical votes in the general? In practice, closed primaries serve to conserve the status quo and current power structure, making it the conservative (not even liberal) position, and puts more power in the hands of the parties and those who decide when you can register than the voters, making it mildly anti-democratic. The progressive position is something like ranked-choice voting, but open primaries are at least closer to that. You make claims about your political stance, but here you are protecting a right-wing system that produces right-wing results more often than not. You've gotta do something about that contradiction in your ideology.
