@peterbondy I mean, internalized bigorty happens in every form from sexism, to racism, to homophobia, etc. I would never claim ageism to be any different, but let's be real, older generations' complaints about ageism towards them is kinda like white people complaining about racism towards them. Does it happen and suck when it does? Sure, but if there's some uncouth comments about white people under a story about some racist BS a racist white person did, I'm not under there making the issue about anti-white racism. See what I mean?

@peterbondy I mean, don't get me wrong either, that is happening and I would much rather people be vocalizing that frustration in calling out, for example, Biden's ageism instead of making more wierd essentialist statements about older generations. Identifying and calling out bigotry for what it is, is much more productive than taking a less targeted approach to reacting to bigotry dirrected towards one's group (as we have seen with other civil rights issues). How to get from where we are where the understanding of what's happening to the younger generations being ageism as subconscious to a more productive reaction of calling a spade a spade instead of the normal reaction we see now, though, idk, beyond doing my very small part in putting the right labels on things and do things like steer the conversation in a more productive dirrection. I do appriciate your willingness to listen, btw, agree that a lot of the comments weren't things I would say I really approve of, and hope that came across.

Alternative possibility: it was an excuse to fire young people because Biden is ageist af kinda like a low-key version of how the Nixon administration created the war on drugs because they wanted to lock up black people and the anti-war left.

@scrubjay93 you're oversimplifying. They sure don't want the left involved enough to win primaries or affect policy and (while it wasn't covered in my comment) they don't want minorities to have too much representation lest the GOP be relegated to the dustbin of history as they would no longer be able to use them as a threat to get people to vote for more conservative "Democrats" Also, Biden is legitimately ageist and that may be enough all on its own even if it's against his best interest.

If you want to see where most of the ageism is, look first toward all the bigorty the older generations dirrected toward the millennials. Hell, both the last 2 "Democratic" nominees were overtly contemptuous of the younger generations. Everything from that, to the 15ish years of solid headlines blaming millennials for everything to how it's as impossible to seperate the inaction on climate change from ageism as it would be to seperate the policy of appeasement of the 20th century from Europe's widespread antisemitism. (And that's just a fraction of the personal stuff, not even getting into the systemic level) Yeah, ageism is alive and well and the older generations need to cut it the fuck out before they ruin everything. Even in the story it was mentioned that Biden targeted young staffers for this, but you don't see that because of your underlying ageism.

@scrubjay93 almost everyone over 45 I've ever known for more than 3 months has made some bigoted comment that let me know I was just "one of the good ones" to them (including but not limited to every "kids these days" comment which are still made about people in their 30s) and I vividly remember that decade and a half of headlines dragging millennials though the mud (which was almost entirely projection or complaining about things that were good) and can't remember the last election where the majority of the older vote wasn't going to destroying our futures (often with a "fuck you I got mine" attitude and/or an overtly ageist candidate) Hell, the "ok boomer" thing is the generational equivalent of "quit mansplaining" or "white noise" and came about for the same reasons: a demographic tired of being ignored, patronized, and talked over by another demographic with a bunch of people with the attitude that the mere fact of that demographic difference meant they were more of an authority to speak on a subject they knew little to nothing about because "how could they possibly know what they're talking about?" It's actually the opposite: ageism against millennials is harder to notice because of how incredibly pervasive it is.
