Scientists: How does that help Musk: it protects you from the rioters who want to kill you for destroying the planet and living rich after the next market crash tops the great depression

@iwhxiwbdiqbxjdb a- nice ad-hominem B-Musk is not working tirelessly to help people without concern for money. He's using his wealth for his own ego. C-you didn't address, at all, the central assertion about Musk's competancy or intellectual diligence So yeah, you're acting like a typical Musk fanboy.

@ScottishRebel last I checked Thunderf00t was lazily farming content producing basically the same several videos repeatedly for most of his content for easy money, but neither that, nor his tendency to get somewhat obsessive over going after someone doesn't mean his debunking of Musk was incorrect. The hyperloop was a recycled idea that was abandoned due to being impractical and his multistory tunnel systems are just an absurd attempt to get away from the fact that his elitist ass doesn't like what the real answer to traffic congestion is: public transit (perhaps even manditory in the city center)
4
thesparitan Musk does hate public transit and you're a fool if you buy his PR team's post hoc spin, and yes, at least within dense cities, switching entirely to public transit is viable. Cities have already done so in their city centers and seen great results. Let's also not pretend that the shift to EVs was because of Musk more than just becaude of market forces interacting with tech developed by others. Also, btw, sharing rides is good for a society and helps counteract the hyperindividualism bordering on narcissism that will be the death of us.
4
The hyperloop which was a century old idea discarded for being impractical, or the reinvention of "subways, but worse" so he can avoid the fact that the real solution to traffic is normal public transit (because he's disgusted at sharing a ride with poor people)? Which idiotic stolen idea are we talking about?
3
His disgust at public transit as he frantically tries to find a way to solve traffic without ever having to share a ride with poor people isn't the most eco-friendly course of action.
3
@37VQV he's trying to make other people's ideas a reality by throwing heaps of money at it and often goes after completely unworkable ones becuase he's not smart enough to tell the good ones from the bad. He's not a complete moron, but tallent, that ain't.
3
Dr Downtime a-wrong b-getting some government grants to slap together a pathetic prototype for an idea he can't make work isn't "bringing something to market"
2
Why would a rich asshole with a history of contempt for the poor want an armored car with a huge economic collapse on the horizon? Occam's Razor seems to work here.
2
thesparitan you know what's greener than that? Public transit, and Musk hates public transit because it means sharing a ride with poor people who he's expressed concern might kill him. People aren't talking about Musk's flamethrower producing a huge amount of greenhouse gasses. People are popping the myth that Musk is some savior from climate change because what he really is, is an asshole with too much money inventing toys for rich kids.
2
This is less "I'm trying to make this a viable mass production line" and more "I'm terrified what the disgusting poor people might do after the next economic crash, so want an armored car that would fit into a cyberpunk setting"
2
@snowblow1984 given that a lot of his projects are being at least in part funded by government grants, it's still that way, and Musk's dirrecting of that research into less important/viable dirrections isn't exactly a great thing either.
2
@MrBlaq if he had finished thr physics degree, he wouldn't have wasted money on the hyperloop BS...but then, government grants took the edge off that failed project.
1
Musk really isn't that smart. He just has enough money to throw at ideas others have thought up and a PR team able to make it look like he's innovating.
1
@Johnywang1 it looks like a decades old idea of what the future would look like...which is the aesthetic Musk likes for his toys.
1
Musk's disgust at having to commute in the same vehicle as poor people is intolerable. If he keeps that attitude up after the next market crash, it's not unlikely he's gonna want to get that glass right.
1
TY! This celebrity tech daddy mythologizing needs to die!
1
@jeffroberts6428 that's what our bar is? Not actively opposing climate change legislation. Might as well break out the guillotines if that's what our standards have sunk to.
1
Lol, a lot of people idolize Musk. What planet are you on?
1
If Musk was so great as science, he wouldn't have been pushing the hyperloop disaster, for example. He's not some magnificent inventor, sorry. He's just a rich guy with an expensive hobby.
1
@tipsyMJT so, just ignore that reusable spacecraft already existed and that all Musk did was throw money at some ideas people had in the past taking advantage of other peoples' inventions and his economic advantage so he could claim "first" on a technicality?
1
Musk wants to do everything he can to avoid the fact that the real solution to the transit problem is public transit because he's disgusted and terrified of sharing a ride with poor people.
1
@taumus1 the transit problems Musk's proposals seek to "solve" aren't dealing with the rural areas, so you know that's a no-sequetor, at best, and at least a borderline strawman, right? Can we please stick to intellectually honest arguments?
1
@ScottishRebel you missed the part about "trains" designed to carry cars, didn't you?
1
But how else will Musk keep himself safe? He already avoids riding disgusting public transit to keep away from dangerous poor people, but after the coming economic crash, that may not be enough. He needs an armored car to survive the fallout of what his class is doing to the working class of the world. That is the emotional underpinnings of that vehicle and why it looks like something that takes inspiration from Mad Max and Cyberpunk. It's a physical manifestation of Musk's thoughts about the future.
1
So Musk can have a cyberpunk-themed armored car to protect him from the revolting peasants after the next economic crash, yes.
1
@taumus1 non-sequetor and ad-hominem rolled into one. Fuck off.
1
The likeable part is dependent on how good a judge of character you are. I find him obnoxious.
1
Just like Musks multistory tunnel network nonsense caters to the desire of rich narcissists like him to avoid the simple truth that the answer to the traffic problem is public transit because they don't want to share rides with poor people?
1
And there is plenty of stronger glass out there in the world already....including stuff designed to stop bullets. Does he think that putting some mid-strength glass on a frame that looks more like it's designed to appeal to what the 90s thought a futuristic car might look like than practical converns is innovative? Once again, not buying this rediculous performance of a rich kid trying to show off his expensive toys.
1
Oh please, he does what he does out of ego, not altruism, and a lot of the stuff he's selling is total BS.
1
@taumus1 electric cars are a BS solution to problems best solved by public transit and you know full well I was talking about his rediculous sci-fi proposals, not electric vehicles in general. Again I ask you to argue honestly.
1
@taumus1 so you can't argue honestly or even honestly represent anyone's position that falls outside the traditional model. You sound like a fucking conservative dude. You know that right?
1
For the same reason that he wants an armored car. He's worried about getting attacked by revolting peasants in a near-future cyberpunk dystopia (perhaps minus the full cyber part)
