Really??? No offense, but this is entirely unsurprising to me.

”Never believe that [they] are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. [They] have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.” -Jean-Paul Sartre speaking of something true of all fascists (edited to try and keep YouTube from suspiciously censoring it)

"We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority." -Texas GOP official party platform 2012 This problem was intentionally created.

@klbriceno1 It's actually worse than that. These people are ideologically opposed to truth and reason on a fundamental level. There's a word for being ideologically opposed to The Enlightenment. That word is "fascism". "The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name." -Chinese proverb

@arthurdefreitaseprecht2648 communism absolutely is an extreme. It is the leftmost point of the political spectrum as the most egalitarian position possible to take. Stalin was just pretending to be communist, while cracking down on all the real communists who were to his left. It's just that all extremes are not equal.

@Eddardstark9308 you really don't see the difference between what we're dealing with now and people getting attached to random dumb things online in the 2000s???

@nish8435 Murdoch "news" is what you're seeing.

I think you're forgetting about MTG blaming California wildfires on "jewish space lasers"

@IbnRushd-mv3fp everyone is better than trolls who keep getting banned for hate speech.

@BeeCeeJay That's a nice hope, but it won't happen. The fascists will continue their war on truth even after the election.

@Eddardstark9308 I promise you that you are giving them too much credit and that it goes deeper than that. The anti-intellectucalism we are dealing with now isn't just people latching on to random dumb things like we saw in the 2000-2012ish range. We've always dealt with people latching on to dumb things online without thinking them through. What we've been dealing with for roughly the last decade is an emotional rebellion against The Enlightenment, itself. A contempt for those who genuinely care about truth, reason, and human well-being. A feeling that thinking, itself, is emasculating. A feeling of persecution looking for a target, any target, to lash out against to avoid any introspection.

@IbnRushd-mv3fp 8 month old troll account.

@IbnRushd-mv3fp everyone's above people that can't keep an account for more than a year due to getting banned for hate speech.

Define "adults". It's mostly manbabies that are the problem here.
