@HrHaakon let's not discredit other social sciences like that. History and anthropology have soundly debunked foundational tennants of economics because, while soft, they are still sciences and not religions like economics is.

Finally someone calls a spade a spade! It is absolutely a religion, and that bronze bull on wall street is the idol to which it makes human sacrifices in hopes to make line go up.

It's actually really simple. Stop trying to look at economics like a science. It works on the exact opposite principles to science. It is a religion, and much like Young Earth Creationism even has its own origin myth (that money arose out of pre-monitary barter economies....which we have since proven never existed) that stubbornly persists in being taken as fact the face of mountains of evidence that it is not even possible for it to be an approximation of the truth. Once you realize that it is just pretending to be a science to rationalize pre-assumed beliefs that came from motivated reasoning to justify a preexisting power structure, it becomes so much easier to sift through the field to find what very little of worth it has produced in the centuries of its existence. On a good day it is no better than alchemy as a field of study. It does NOT want its foundational myths or assumptions challenged. It will continue trying to square the circle forever until there is a massive change in approach that completely upends the field and they stop chasing their metaphorical philosopher's stones (like their desperate attempts to try and make economics apolitical).
