Someone can be a good husband and a good man and still be a terrible father (to say nothing of those who are just good at acting the part in front of others). That said, there are plenty of other places that the BS could have come from. It takes a village, after all.

@trequor absolutely wrong you disgusting misogynist. It was legal and expected to beat your wife back then and keeping a child in an abusive home (even if that abuse is not directed at them) is incredibly damaging to them

Very true. Unfortunately, so many Boomers reacted to that by trying to steal their kids childhoods and futures to make up for what their childhood lacked. Look at participation trophies. They only exist because of parents wanting to vicariously live out getting a mantle filled with trophies by trying to live out a second childhood through their kids....and then the generation who was given them and never wanted them gets mocked and stereotyped over it by the generation who demanded them and stole their own kids' childhoods. To anyone reading this, you don't have to be a perfect parent, but it IS your responsibility to end the cycle of abuse.
