  1. Yeah, weight for even short-range trucking is a huge concern as unlike with cars, trucks often get near the weight limits of the roads that carry them, so every bit of weight devoted to carrying your energy is weight not used for carrying the cargo that is the entire point of the vehicle in the first place. Trains are probably easier to just run off of power mains (as it's not like you don't know exactly where they're going to be traveling long ahead of time), but I suppose a car or 2 for power storage could help bridge the gaps between power grids or give the train something to run on if a line goes down or something. Seems highly impractical for the already impractical cars, but if it works as advertised, there would be other uses. I'm optimistic about liquid metal batteries solving grid storage problems, but you can't exactly take those with you and can't always hook everything up to the grid or afford the weight of Lithium batteries, so we will need some other options even in the best case scenario even if the average consumer never uses it. Idk what that will be, but it is a gap we need to fill.

  2. I mean, if you're willing to eat the efficiency loss for electrolysis, that is a solved problem. Not an ideal solution for things like cars, but we will need something for things like trucks and planes where weight is a huge concern, so we will probably need something to replace diesel/jet fuel unless we get a really, really huge breakthrough on battery tech that I don't want to count on. IDK is this is that replacement, but it's good that we have energy storage research that is optimized for things other than cars, laptops, and phones.

Setting aside the unhinged anti-public transit ranting and insane climate denial misinformation (which I highly encourage reporting, btw) to get back on topic, if this performs as advertised is could be good for electric planes and trucks. Just because it isn't cost competitive for the least efficient mode of transportation (cars, ICE or otherwise) doesn't change it's potential viability for vehicles where weight and refueling time are critical design concerns and $/distance can be somewhat sacrificed for weight/distance because that's the more pressing design concern.
