  1. ShieldWife probably true on average, but hardships like poor nutrition and disease did often leave people less than they could have been and there are still plenty of people that lead physically and mentally demanding lives even today, so I'd say there's certainly a fair amount of overlap.

  2. Yeah, the average has probably shifted (especally here in the US), but there is still a lot of overlap room for fit people today to outclass plenty of historical examples. That which doesn't kill you doesn't always make you stronger, and malnutrition is a huge example of that.
