The thing about brass and bronze (that looked like brass, btw) is that they're to copper what steel is to iron, with the atoms of the other, lighter element taking places in the structure and making it more rigid. Unlike steel, however, they're not hardened by heating and rapidly cooling (heating softens them reguardless of how they're cooled), but by work hardening through applied pressure. That's why it started with a soft deformation but became increasingly hard and brittle the longer pressure was applied.

A fair number of stonger concretes get stronger with age. Also, keep in mind that the old things that weren't made to last aren't really around anymore, so there is a selection bias going on.

@vvs6433 yup, just fueling confirmation bias. The fact that it started by admitting it was just "Chinese sledgehammer" before anything got going really should have clued people in to the credibility of this video, but it's telling people what they already wanted to hear, so the brain turns off and they just clap along.

@tommymatthews4984 T&R's correct. The old stuff was probably just a slower-curing mixture (which are generally stronger) and the new stuff hadn't even had time to cure to full strength.

@vvs6433 well, it's certainly the minimal effort way at the very least!

Yeah, I'm like "we haven't even gotten into this yet and I'm noticing a problem"

@WATCH-IT-BUSTER Probably America, actually, judging by the age.
