  1. No, the fork was not invented in 13th century Italy. Cooking and serving versions were ancient, but the table fork was invented by the Eastern Roman empire (aka Byzantium) somewhere around the 4th century and was both common through the middle east and introduced to Italy by the 10th century. I don't know where she got that date since we have names and dates of people introducing the fork to central and western Europe centuries before she mentioned.
