  1. Nah, TYT was never extremely far left at all. They just sold out. Simple as that. TYT is actually an example of how this happens to ALL parts of the political spectrum.

  2. This is actually why it's so important to be using the correct definition of right vs left, which is hierarchy and consolidation of power vs egalitarianism and distribution of power. Top-down power structures are ALL right wing, no matter what aesthetics and justifications they wrap themselves in. Taking up nominally left wing positions on some issues while keeping a right-wing, superiority-driven mindset is really easy to fall into because it takes more work to actually deconstruct those right wing modes of thought. The real left and tankies share nothing but aesthetics in common. Even on economic issues where the political compass puts them on the same position on that axis, they take completely different stances on how an economy should be organized with the real left centering economic democracy and tankies promoting what's called "state capitalism". That's part of the problem with the political compass. It treats people that want everything to be worker coops as having the same economic positions as people who want the economy managed by a dictator, which is obviously absurd.
