  5. I mean, I think they're used to seeing animals a lot bigger than them. I'd imagine the mood is more "what the fuck is all this? I don't understand anything I'm looking at. Am I tripping? Where's the water? Where's the sand? Why is this thing moving? It it actually the current and I'm just so far gone I can't recognize water?" Seriously, they're just really big bugs who've ever known oceans and beach, then were caugh, put on one thing they didn't understand (a boat), in another thing they didn't understand made of an unknown material (a luggage bag), were tossed around a bit in total darkness before they went to altitude (which I have no idea how it might affect them), then were tossed around a bit more, then ended up in an airport luggage claim are that is just a completely alien environment in every conceivable way. Some fear? Probably, but the overriding emotion I think would be total confusion (with fear and "yay, I'n free" coming in tied for second)

Boars are absolutely nuts (also, if it had any momentum, you'd want to foot the bottom into the ground like bracing a pike for a cavalry charge)

  12. They are cute, but harmless is a stretch as they are a reservoir species for a BUNCH of diseases. Also, they have very tiny teeth, so you may not know if you've been bit, so if you come in contact with one, go get your shots!

  14. No dog that small is sane. Once you breed them small enough that they can't stand over your lap something just goes wrong with the wiring in their brains. Not always the same problem, and they can still be "gooddog" but every single one of them is just not right in the head.

The Arizona wasn't and for good reason. Also, Japan wasn't trying to take that ship or the US at all. They were trying to prevent the US from stopping them from taking over east Asia and that section of the Pacific.

  20.  @louisrobitaille5810  I don't know the term for the method, but I'm guessing the can was WD-40 as that's pretty flammable stuff, though with as many cans are pressurized with and/or contain flammable chemicals, I can't be sure. The context just seems more like WD-40 than, say, hair spray. I can say that it didn't work by making a vaccume, though. You'll notice that it inflated before the flames went out, so it was being filled with the rapidly expanding gasses. Unfortunately, I understand the physics better than I understand tractors so I'm limited with some of the specifics.

Last thing you want is to get shot over some fast food because you wanted to mess with someone completely unhinged over something trivial. Not only is it probably compressed into rock at this point but think of it this way: over geologic timescales dinosaur tracks are constantly being uncovered and then either re-covered or destroyed. If we lived millennia ago or millennia from now, it may have been that a different set of tracks would be the longest exposed, but at any point, SOME set of tracks would be the longest exposed. It just so happens that when we're living, it happens to be that set.

  47. Sorry to break the illusion, but that sound was from a wooden train whistle (the kind you blow with your mouth) either just out of shot or cut in. I'm 100% sure. There's a scratchy dry sound in there that comes from the roughly finished wood typical for the interior of such whistles. I had one as a child. I know that sound extremely well. It's why I can tell you not only wasn't it her voice that made it, but that it wasn't a real train whistle either. It would be actually easier to replicate the sound of a real one with the human vocal chords than that of one of those.

You just set up the camera, use that to take a picture of the room when it's all set up nice with the lighting and everything you'd be recording with. Then you bring the green screen in and use the same image from the camera you haven't moved to overlay the exact pov and lighting situation over the greenscreen and everything beyond its border. It's trying to make the room look like a different room that's hard. Freaky effect, but it's really simple.

I can see why the abusers in this thread got bit. The only time I have ever been bit by a dog was a rescue dog who WAS frequently kicked in its previous home and was traumatized for LIFE by it.   63. SAME!!! My school district was painfully white and I still couldn't even come close to coming close tl keeping up with them in shooting hoops. I was really good at defense (at least as far as teens not on an actual team for the sport goes), though, so at least I wasn't totally useless in an actual game and could be something other than a liability as long as I didn't try to shoot.

Still, no fatalities, few injuries, only a couple serious injuries, and the plane was able to be reused. "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Any landing where you can also reuse the plane is a great landing." Compare also Ural Flight 178, another airbus. Didn't loose power (just birdstikes to both engines): landed in a cornfield (rather than runway like 236) with zero serious injuries. If it's just thrust gone, you're fine (especially if you still have one working engine). It's if the power goes out that you should start to worry. Commercial airliners have pretty low stall speeds, for fuel economy, to make landings softer, and to be able to land on less runway without the need for arrester cables or lots of heavy landing gear to apply more breaking force. As long as there's hydrolics to the control surfaces and flat ground to land on within gliding distance, you're mostly just looking at possible scrapes and broken bones, but unless something else goes wrong, 0% fatalities is still by far the most likely outcome.

Breaks+powered control surfaces+a proper airstrip is likely to produce 0 injuries, and having 1/2 engines working is even safer, because it means you've still got a large portion of the thurst...which you'd need to throttle down to land anyway. The loss of 1 engine alone is of minimal concern. You need another problem or a bad location for things to get bad enough to produce a bunch of injuries. It's mostly just dangerous in that you've lost a large chunk of your safety margin, not in that it means something bad is about to happen is all I'm saying.

The crime in question has to be taken into account for the deployment of such force. And what was she refusing to do? Sign a piece of paper. They have her license plate. They have her on camera. What the fuck does the police department need her signature for? She wasn't a danger to anyone. She refused to provide written acknowledgement of her receipt of a ticket they had her on camera getting. What happens if she doesn't sign it is the same thing that would happen if she did: she'd either show up to her hearing date (and likely loose) or not, and be sent a bill either way. So Fucking What This is exactly what I'm talking about. The cop could have let her drive off and NOTHING would have been different except he would have had his feelings hurt that she didn't jump through meaningless procedural hoops, and you think that justifies the use of a taser because you're a little bitch that loves licking authoritarian boot.
