As someone who, even as a teen was like "um, no, most likely just going to die slowly and painfully even if it works. I'm gonna stand up and take it" I'm with your dad on this one. No need to deal with fallout (literal or metaphorical) just becase the assholes at the top want to play the odds that a fraction of the people might be useful to them afterwards.

Millennial here. We had drills for fire, severe weather, and I think a bit of what was to become active shooter drills under the guise of there being an intruder on the premises (but that was mostly just going to be "stay in place and listen to your teacher and if you do have to leave, go further away than you would for a fire drill) I knew about the duck and cover drills from before, though. As a side note, our severe weather drills were at least as stupid and I had no intention of actually going through with them if it came to it.

Depends on the apocalypse. If it starts with getting hit by a powerful CME or EMP-producing high-altitude nuclear detonations then none of our shit is going to be working.

@norml.hugh-mann it was also about the people at the top just wanting to play the odds because even a 0.01% survival rate at great personal cost and suffering of that 0.01% is still a lot of people who can be put to work or war in the aftermath.

@kolawoleakerele2607 I suppose that would be possible, but it'd probably be less 4k and more "analogue recording on non-electronic media"...so not a YouTube video, but perhaps the last record ever cut by humanity?
