I like the way you're thinking, but with the added drag of the net increasing fuel consumption and the fact that they usually follow the currents (which means not going through the patches) it doesn't really work. Specially-designed crafts like these ones and designing and releasing genetically-engineered plastic-eating plankton are really our only options do deal with the plastic that's already there. The other half of this is to stop it getting into the water in the first place, but every piece of the greater puzzle matters.

@airspotterone5601 ...private sector created this problem dude. Private sector also bought off our government to prevent them from stopping their pollution... O.o
