I have no issue with the concept, the problem is the spinal cord is part of the cns. Transplanting the spine isn't really feasible, and we are nowhere near being able to deal with the kind of neurosurgery it would take.
When we're able to reliably cure quadriplegics we can start working on connecting the brain to a different spine. (btw, unavoidable side effect is loss of all your muscle memory)
The other option involves essentially disassembling the torso before putting it back together with different parts and that's a nope with current tech. (Life support during the procedure, system shock, rejection problems, not to mention figuring out how far away from the cns you need to be for the nerve damage to heal, etc)
Also, it be really nice to have treatments ready for neurodegenerative diseases before we can do this...and visual/auditory stuff, or old age could mean loosing your mind, sight, and hearing until people decide to let you die...
