  1. As I understand, a lot of them are bought in bulk and then given away...which is a way to move money through certain legal loopholes to the politician's actual pocket. Grain of salt with that one, but that is my understanding of where a significant chunk of the purchases of a lot of these books go.

  2. Getting recognisable names on is one of the few things they can do that gets viewers to tune in without pissing off their customers (the advertisers). There's also a certain degree of buying into their own BS that inevitably happens in that kind of environment.

  3. If you had that amount of publicity, you absolutely could. Sketchbooks, diaries, notebooks, etc all move pretty large volumes.
