Honestly, in that kidnapping situation, there's a good chance that shooting random paramilitary guys of unknown affiliation who wouldn't identify themselves while kidnapping someone could hold up in court as justified. I know there's at least 1 case where someone killed several cops who broke into his house in a no-knock raid and got off because he didn't know they were cops so there appears to my lay perspective that there is legal precedent for it.
