  4. It's not that they don't get it. It's that they don't care because it's not going to be them paying the price. "Don't Look Up" is a poor comparison because it's not going to hit everyone indiscriminately. The debate isn't actually about the facts or how much damage it's likely to do. They'll pretend it's about stuff like that and principled disagreement with the means of protest, but that's to avoid admitting the real disagreement is that they should have to put up with any inconvenience to solve a problem that's just going to affect us and not them. "Sure, but I care more about you bothering me about the issue than what's being done to you, so by bringing it up, YOU are the problem" is the real sentiment being pushed. They'll do it across racial lines. They'll do it across gender lines. They'll do it across generational lines. Discussions around systemic racism are actually closer to the mark than "Don't Look Up" because it's really just pretending not to see as plausible deniability for not caring.
