  3. Even multiplayer games that aren't MASSIVELY multiplayer can work just fine. If it's small, little community-run servers you can even allow modding and the problem will basically be handled by the community as long as they are given the tools to ban people. It's not even the multiplayer aspect that's the biggest hurdle. It's trying to get thousands if not millions of players in what at least seems like the same multiplayer lobby/game. That's when you get all kinds of problems at massive scale and try to automate solutions in an insane arms race.

  6. If anything big budget calls itself "genre defining" it's lying. AAA games are too big and expensive these days to be allowed to take the risks to make anything genre defining. That will entirely be the domain of indy games which are small enough to be able to risk the potential failure that comes with innovation.

  8. Giant budgets and corporate bureaucrats are the death of creative vision. Once a production passes a certain size, the devs simply aren't allowed to take real risks and do real art in design anymore. This goes for games as it goes for movies. If you want something that actually has soul, you need to look towards old stuff or indy stuff because big business will only ever give it to you on accident.
