  2.  @moamoa7067  a lot of federal regulations are based on the ability for the federal government to regulate interstate commerce, so unfortunately, once Texas cut its grid off from that of other states, it had a lot more leeway to make dumb choices that would get people killed.

  5.  @hunter1779  if you want a more specific answer than "the same way every neighboring state knew to" or "because scientists have been warning of 'more extreme weather of every kind' for decades" how abouy basic pattern recognition because they do get severe ice storms not infrequently. https://www.weather.gov/crp/stormhistory Oh look, here's a list of just south Texas and even narrowing it down to specifically ice storms in a fraction of the state in the last decade you have several examples. I'm in the north and even I know Texas periodically gets hit with severe winter weather and that it's been happening more frequently and more severely in recent years. It's called data. You get it from science. Not my fault the GOP likes to ignore both.
