  1.  @MeadowBrook2000  normally, you might have a point. Trapped on an island, though...there's not exactly a fallback point to go to regroup at, and I can't say how trusting I'd be of Russia's treatment of POWs right now...not so clear a call in that situation.

Poorly trained (often conscripted) soldiers, a government staffed based on loyalty to Putin instead of competence, abysmally low morale, fascist brainrot throughout the system (see Umberto Eco for the details), etc....yeah, the Russian military has some massive hurdles to achieving baseline competence, which they're currently tripping over and faceplanting in front of the world from.

  4.  @latayantheazran  yeah, even for the same individual it's kinda random and contextual. Sometimes, the brain rolls with it and can process it. Other times, the memory gets kinda stuck, and causes long-term problems (clinically known as PTSD) because it never fully processes, kinda like a computer program that freezes and just continues hogging system resources and refuses to completely close. Duration of the trauma and heightened stress around the incident before and after tend to increase the chance for things going wrong, as does just bottling up the feelings created by the incident.
