People can't be left alone because right wingers need to fuck with people to maintain their hierarchy, because their self-worth is intimately tied to how many people they can imagine (or better yet force) below themselves. That is the fundamental core of all forms of oppression and bigotry, and why solidarity of all people under the acknowledgement that it can happen to any of us for any arbitrary distinction that can be made is the answer. As long as right wing politics exist, so will this kind of BS.

Religion is a pretty normal tool for evil people to cloak themselves in the reputations of saints. Whenever you equate religion (especally organized religion) with moral authority, this, and worse, is what you get.
19
Decades of cold war propaganda indoctrinating multiple generations through both media and the education system at every level is why (and it's hard to overstate how extensive and extreme it was). Note that the generations that grew up after that eased up a little (millennials and gen Z) have a negative view of capitalism.
15
Ikr? David, stop calling Nanci Poloci left. She's center right (at best) and will oppose progressives at every turn because that's her job as much as it is the job of Justice Democrats to to a "hostile takeover" of the party so we can return it to a party for the people. That's not a problem caused by Trump. That's a problem caused by the "Democratic" Party being filled with people to the right of Reagan!
11
Either she's lying, or it reveals a great deal about the bubble she was raised in...I'm not sure which reflects worse on her.
10
There's no perhaps. There's no comparison between right wing and left wing domestic terrorism numbers and you only embolden them by pretending that there's even a chance in equivalency.
10
@4TwentyFour20 not that kind of mandate and you don't have the right to threaten the lives of those around you. That's normally called "reckless endangerment" in civilized society but you're being treated with kid gloves and still throwing a tantrum over it.
10
Please learn all the ways our system produces these results and fix them in your own counties, because the shift to the right is a global one and you want to head it off as much as possible.
9
Look up the "Dunning Krueger effect"
9
@T. Meyer they wouldn't need armed guards if he and those like him weren't emboldening fucking Nazis and calling them "very fine people" How is that not obvious to you? Or, is it, but you're just pushing Nazi propaganda?
8
Wow, I'm white and even I know that would be dumb to say to a cop! (I'd be thinking it real loud though)
8
In Germany, you don't have a defacto oligarchy where public opinion has zero statistical correlation to policy.
8
Wow!
8
Matthew Huszarik check polls on policy. Most Americans want the platform of Bernie. Hell, even most Republican voters agree on many issues that the establishment "Democrats" think are radically left (meaning in many ways those politicians are to the right of the average Republican voter) The center of the country is _not- between the parties and by the metric of the full political spectrum, the views of the American public, and the political consensus of almost every European country, Bernie is a complete moderate. Even by our nation's own history, Bernie is just FDR (you know, that guy who bragged about "saving capitalism") minus the racism. You're the ignorant one and have drunk too deeply of corporatist propaganda to even recognize the truth.
7
This isn't even a matter of Republicans doing it to "Democrats". It's a matter of the right doing it to the left. As we saw in the 2016 primary, far right "Democrats" like Hillary are perfectly happy to pick up the same election fraud playbook as Republicans to stop real populist candidates from getting nominated. This shouldn't surprise anyone though, as right-wing politics is fundamentally about favoring consolidated, entrenched power (be it buisness, government, or otherwise), and the whole nomenclature of right\left wing originated from royalist vs those favoring representative government. In short, the right has been opposed to the democratic process from the very beginning and as soon as they get past being moderate right-wing, they start actively sabotaging it when they feel threatened.
7
Read the old Testament again
6
I support you standing up for your rights, but I caution you that many cops flat out do not know what your rights are (because they spent more time training about violence than the laws surrounding their job), and do not take kindly to having their authority questioned, or being embarrassed by a civilian who understands their job better than them (because fucking cops). Please still do it if you're up to it, but be cautious about tone and wording for your own safety (as much as it disgusts me to say that).
5
There are exit polls. Keep voting. Eventually if we can get things to the point when the election rigging is undeniable, something will happen. How peaceful it will be is up to them though.
5
You think they care what's in the Constitution? They don't.
5
Until Americans have taken back our government from being a defacto oligharchy, please don't trust our government. We the people are your friends (most of us anyways) but our government does not reflect that as it is being run by usurpers. Frankly, you shouldn't even view the US government as legitimate.
5
They don't believe the government should ever do anything to help people. Hurting people lower in the social heirarchy is always on the table for them. Not joking or exaggerating, btw
5
I want to be clear that I am 100% against the cop here and support anyone saying they have a right to not answer questions. I'd never tell anyone "just answer the questions so you can be on your way" or any variation thereof, but I'm curious why you have found this to be a bad idea in a personal, practical sense. Not a rhetorical question, just a subject my life experience leaves me (and I presume others) lacking on.
4
Or, and hear me out, we treat Nazi groups like Islamic terrorist groups. They're both right wing terrorists who want to destroy our country and way of life.
4
@brianmcintyre6132 no, but not even we're as bad. You know they're using our weapons to commit a genocide and funneling them to groups like Al-Quaida right?
4
You don't have to register with a party, though we do need to get rid of closed primaries to help that along.
4
Last I heard the 2nd largest shareholder in Faux News was a Saudi prince. I'm sure that their choice of "news" network was a coincidence and that this never affected their programming though /s
4
Only the neocons and facists (though, white men are way disproportionately represented in such groups). Liberals and progressives agree the past was kinda shit and that we should try to make a better future instead of trying to whitewash the past.
4
@satriakurniawandjaenal9676 Sherman didn't go far enough, clearly.
4
@hoodaticus that'll happen when the cops aren't really trained on the limits of their powers, and almost never face serious consequences for overreaching them.
4
Guys, it's obviously a Nazi troll. Telling them to stop lying is a futile effort without a gun pointed at them.
4
@Halokon you know what would also help? Not doing shit like https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836 Also not spending more time on training for violence than learning the laws surrounding their job.
4
@goofusmaximus1482 missed the most important detail of that: their viewers ranked as less informed than those who consume No news at all! That's why they were called "Faux News" long before the term "fake news" entered the common vernacular.
4
We never fixed the causes of the 2008 crash, and Trump has only exacerbated the problems. Another crash IS coming. It's just a question of when. I'd prefer it sooner, rather than later
4
Bonus points to anyone who can point out how Land Grabber accidentally outed himself as a facist (no, the name doesn't count this time)
4
Why would Faux News care. There are plenty of right-wing demogogues out there willing to lie for a fraction of his salary.
4
@sparkyjones560 what does he want? Listen again. He wants to be able to rush trials to the death penalty. Why is the question. We know he's been at least sympathetic to Nazis in the past so it's not moral outrage. Why would an authoritarian strongman want to abridge due process and jump to rushed death penalties? I have my own grim answers, but what are all of yours?
4
We need to force things to the point where they can no longer maintain plausible deniability of election results and get people mad enough to take to the streets. Once we exhaust the last few options for peaceful revolution, it will be on them to decide how this goes down.
4
Professor Liberal Avenger "only" will before too long become merely "first". The entirety of the MSM is corporatist propaganda of varrying flavors.
3
Some people have been using mail in ballots to avoid the hackable voting machines or for when they cannot actually vote for some reason.
3
If you're pushing a button, you can't trust your vote. Go vote anyway, but electronic voting is no more reliable than mail in even if you check things at the end.
3
You're missing the even bigger picture. Corporate advertising has been twisting our news coverage for decades. We need them to make them afraid of directly supporting any news agency and chase them behind the plausible deniability of "a bot put our ads there" as as long as they are making a dirrect choice to advertise with a specific outlet they are going to be exerting influence on that outlet's content. That is unavoidable in the old model of advertising, and is utterly toxic to our nation. Hell, like some of the military ads on cable "news" a lot of the ads aren't even there to sell anything. Their main purpose is to buy influence over content.
3
@jenkem4464 atheism just means not believing in any god or gods. Being opposed to belief in gods is antitheism. Not all atheists are antitheists (or skeptics or even nonreligious for that matter).
3
In a civilized country, this would already cause an invalidation of the election, forcing its postponement, and those involved would be facing severe charges including, ideally, treason Just a reminder to keep perspective.
3
@Land Grabber oh semantics? i can do that better than you. We're (on paper) a Federal Constitutional Democratic Republic. Democracy is an aspect of our governing system, and restoring that aspect was what I was referring to, not claiming that our nation was a dirrect democracy. Get on my level, troll.
3
No, you don't get notified. That would defeat the point. They don't want honest elections and haven't for longer than anyone has been alive.
3
The most reliable way I've found to predict what the GOP is doing behind the scenes is to take all the accusations they make about others, discount accusations of communism, and assume that everything left is projection and look for evidence of them doing something at least highly similar to what they are claiming the left is doing. Btw, this also works for far-right "democrats" like Hillary (though again, towards the left)
3
@lapland123 if you look up US Congress's approval numbers you'll see how the American people actually feel about their government without the propaganda and tribalism of the Presidency to skew the numbers. Short answer though: We're not ok with this. Many have just lost hope in things being able to be better.
3
@web9529 do you see the knots you have to tie logic into to try and say that the people elected to those positions by the people were hand-picked by the President so you can do appologetics for a far-right military coup? Strange, isn't it?
2
@Shawn Brink nope. The point of an emergency alert system is that it bypasses such things. I can confirm that mine went off loudly to everyone in the room dispite having my headphones in, just like the Amber Alerts I sometimes get.
2
I can only speak for my area, but the average white person here wouldn't feel entitled to do that (progress, yay?) but there certainly still are people who would, unfortunately. Hopefully, where you live will change to be less like the 50s too and we can continue to push that behavior into a smaller and smaller population until we consign it to a shameful paragraph in our history books.
