People can't be left alone because right wingers need to fuck with people to maintain their hierarchy, because their self-worth is intimately tied to how many people they can imagine (or better yet force) below themselves. That is the fundamental core of all forms of oppression and bigotry, and why solidarity of all people under the acknowledgement that it can happen to any of us for any arbitrary distinction that can be made is the answer. As long as right wing politics exist, so will this kind of BS.

Wow, I'm white and even I know that would be dumb to say to a cop! (I'd be thinking it real loud though)

I support you standing up for your rights, but I caution you that many cops flat out do not know what your rights are (because they spent more time training about violence than the laws surrounding their job), and do not take kindly to having their authority questioned, or being embarrassed by a civilian who understands their job better than them (because fucking cops). Please still do it if you're up to it, but be cautious about tone and wording for your own safety (as much as it disgusts me to say that).

I want to be clear that I am 100% against the cop here and support anyone saying they have a right to not answer questions. I'd never tell anyone "just answer the questions so you can be on your way" or any variation thereof, but I'm curious why you have found this to be a bad idea in a personal, practical sense. Not a rhetorical question, just a subject my life experience leaves me (and I presume others) lacking on.

@hoodaticus that'll happen when the cops aren't really trained on the limits of their powers, and almost never face serious consequences for overreaching them.

@Halokon you know what would also help? Not doing shit like https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836 Also not spending more time on training for violence than learning the laws surrounding their job.

I can only speak for my area, but the average white person here wouldn't feel entitled to do that (progress, yay?) but there certainly still are people who would, unfortunately. Hopefully, where you live will change to be less like the 50s too and we can continue to push that behavior into a smaller and smaller population until we consign it to a shameful paragraph in our history books.

@airriontoles43 yeah, so someone that has explicitly stated their agreement with the general principle and simply politely asked someone who brought up personal experiences if they would mind sharing more so their understanding could be expanded, and you bring that kind of tone? Yeah, that's mature, productive, and makes our side look good /s or is white people better understanding the lived experiences of black people something you oppose? If you don't have anything of value to say or a question to ask, you can just move on with your life, you know.

@airriontoles43 you're still talking as if I'm actually arguing against the position instead of looking for specifics to better understand the generalities I already agree with, or are you too stupid to understand the difference and how asking a question is only going to bring up what I already know? I ignored your question because it was irrelevant to the conversation, and actually just a cheap rhetorical trick aimed at a strawman of me. Congrats on earing your mute though, simply be being too stupid to talk to dispite being on the same side of things as me. That takes talent or...something

@hoodaticus kinda the wrong solution to that problem though, isn't it?
