Very late and I don't have all the answers for you, but damage to one of the genes that made for strong jaw muscles kept our skull from fusing early in childhood from the pressure, allowing our skulls and brains to grow significantly before reaching their final size.

Ever walk through a dry scratchy field in shorts and felt how abrasive is was on your legs? Imagine walking and running through that for miles with nothing covering your feet or sensitive bits. I'd wrap something around my hips and feet too!

Iirc, lobsters die of natural causes when they simply get so big that they finally fail to successfully molt, because it simply gets proportionately more difficult the larger they are, with minimal if any other detrimental effects of aging. It's possible they simply didn't have a natural lifespan in the conventional sense and just kept growing until they were too big to molt/eat/breathe enough to not die.
