The culture revolution did away a lot of old values. That’s the point, the old Chinese ways weren’t going to take China into the 21st century.
That revolution wiped the culture-slate clean, and restarted the way from old, old tethered China dragging ways to untethered, wide open world.
As far as coping, stealing technology, that’s the American capitalism ways. We stole technology from Europe when we started industrialization. Shoot, back then, the English customs had to body search Ford personnel before letting them back to USA. We used our memories to steal tech info and bit by bit back to USA.
To this day, Toyota still gets a ford off the assembly line and take it apart, and see. The same, as our ev guy gets a BYD, take it apart and see.
The old English ways to “steal” technology from China, was as the queen said; silk worm farming and tea tree planting were “shared” over…
And the culture revolution opened up a world to the Chinese just like what we did when we got rid of the “queen’s” way.
