  1. My Taiwanese friends said “they’re playing pelosi card again? Her last trip was canceled because she tested positive”. They’re taking bets on what’s the excuse in canceling this trip this time. So far the “too busy for November election” is the majority opinion. They felt it was because xi wouldn’t want to zoom with biden yet, that we had to play this pelosi card. Wondering if it’s going to happen this time.

  2. This pelosi visit has moved center line back 1000 miles and changed status quo big time. A similar visit happened 20 same years ago, we sent two carriers to Taiwan straits and scared China off. This time, our carrier, Reagan, is scared of China’s live rounds military exercises and staying 1000 miles away, around the first island chain. Just a few days ago, Russia announced her intentions to enter and assist China. As it is, China is ready to defend and even take on us within the first islands chain. Now with Russia and China, well, that’s going to be a new military headache we don’t want. And, I don’t think any of our president wants to be associated with starting the ww3.

  3. @edward english; Taiwan was never claimed by Japanese empire as a part, it wasn’t even on their official map. By rule of laws and legally speaking, there are only two constitutions claiming taiwan islands; past and present China.

  4. @dinh hoa luu; By rules of law and legally, when taiwan is a territory in the constitution. Would you use force when outsiders aren’t there to help peaceful reunification? Or would you give up what’s legally yours?

  6. @anthony brooks; I waited for you to specify how does Mao’s quote apply here n to no avail. Anyway, back then 1944, China had three leaders. Both Sun and Chiang had Japanese attachments and american wives (soong sisters). Mao had no foreign attachment, he accomplished one thing that China is finally of itself and for itself. But in the end, he believed in communism. (What if democracy did get a hold of him, I wander what would China be today? )

  7. @fightback; Don’t forget, right now, Taiwan is governing Kinman and Matsu of Fujing province and Taiping island of Hainan province. So there’s jointly governing turfs within the China border. And also China’s coastguard protection of Diaoyu island of Taiwan province.
