I wish it was just sugar. It's massive amounts of chemicals.

I listened to experts. Just not the ones pushed by the state and pharmaceutical companies. When they hushed a Nobel prize winner is when I knew for sure people like him are who I should be listening to.

@mike7652 You like many confuse common curtesy with respect. What we call politeness. That's not respect. That's how society interacts with one another in public spaces to prevent conflicts because conflicts can cause death or serious injury to innocent bystanders. Respect is deference. Someone that has earned the respect of an individual or a community is going to be treated far better than a stranger even if you personally don't know them. My grandfather had earned the respect of the community. Even though we were poor, we'd be invited to rich people's houses to eat so they could consult him and get his opinion on things. That's respect. Totally different than simple curtesy

@hqmagnus A new farmer is going to read about what they're intending to grow. It would depend on the store clerk or the banker. If it was a store clerk of a farming store, yes. On a lot of stuff because you should be very knowledgeable about what you're selling. Is the banker also a gardener? Then yes. Gardening and farming are very close. You are proving the problem unintentionally because you're reducing someone down to just their official job instead of their possible knowledge. My job was data entry on the financial side of a medical lab. That doesn't make me less of a skilled quilter, farmer, gardener, child psychologist (what my degree is in), hunter, fisher, etc. My family were farmers and ranchers. I worked those until I was an adult. Just because I worked doing data entry doesn't mean that's the only thing I have expertise in. You don't have to be recognized by an institution to have expertise in a field. It's more a problem with institutional experts than just general experts. More explicitly, government employed experts.

It's happened several times. There was one in the 60s I believe in the US that destroyed trust in public health officials.

There's a difference in being wrong and lying. They lied. They know they were lying. They knew there was zero science to backup what they were instructing was safety. They knew that that's not what was best for society. At best it was an experiment on a massive scale. At worst it was malicious and attempt to do something else.

@User-d6g4s No. I didn't like people losing their livelihood and business. I didn't like the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in history. I didn't like people not being able to hold their dying loved ones hand as they passed or grieve together afterwards. I don't like sacrificing the young to try to save the elderly.
