Oh no. This was in production long before that. It takes roughly two years to get a movie made and released.

That's what inevitably will happen in the articles talking about it. First they tell me "it's not made for you!" Then get mad when I don't go see it.

That's what it appears to be watching the trailer. Not "evil" but certainly stupid. It looks like what I'd expect a movie illustrating Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack would look like presented as a comedy to try to make it more palatable.

I understood what it was supposed to be about because what it's called is a movie trope that came about in the 70s. Go back and watch a lot of movies from back then and the single black character's only role is to help the major huwhite character. While technically true of every side character in a movie except the villain it just became glaringly obvious. It was Hollywood being progressive kind of like now where they didn't want to make diverse characters the bad guy but wanted them visibly in the movie. There's so many ways you can go with that and have it be hilarious. Unfortunately looking at the trailer, this isn't one of them.

The trailer seemed so familiar to me and I finally figured it out. It's Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack and White Fragility presented as a comedy while still taking the premise of the books seriously. Which makes sense because those are the two books corporate America pushed on employees during the summer of love. It doesn't make a good movie, but that's what it's doing. Edit: So no. It won't do that. That was completely unintentional because it was a huwhite woman and her feminist husband that wrote Barbie. Those books don't have any room for that type of thing. They're both written by extremely racist huwhite women to other huwhite women because they think all of them think exactly like they do.

Looking at the trailer, this isn't for me. I'm sad because the premise had a lot of promise but it's no Blazing Saddles or White Girls. Much more looking forward to American Fiction. Unfortunately the movie you mentioned just doesn't have the comedic talent attached to it that something like that requires to pull it off.

Now see THAT would be something that should be in it. That's absolutely something that a talented "diverse" comic would add to it. You've got to be willing to cross a couple of lines in several directions for something like this. Otherwise it just becomes cringe and preachy. Edit: Go watch the trailer for American Fiction. While still a bit on the nose, it's hitting everywhere and everyone.

Not looking at the trailer. The premise had potential, but this ain't it. Originally I thought it was going to be poking fun of the movie trope it's named after and be like White Girls or something. Unfortunatly it misses the mark into far too much modern day for a trope created in the 70s. For example the meter to measure huwhite people is called "white tears". I am definitely not the audience this is made for. One that looks like it's going to be a much better comic critique of the modern era is American Fiction.

This isn't how it works. Movies that are made but not released can be written off. If one fails, it's not a tax write off. That's why movies like Batgirl that are completed get canned.
