They purchase the gas, pay for delivery, pay the electricity to keep the pumps running, service the pumps, etc. Almost everything they charge is to cover overhead. Gas stations don't make much on gas. Their profits are from what you buy inside. Very similar to a cinema which makes almost nothing from ticket sales and everything is from the concession. You'll see some areas work together to keep the price slightly higher than surrounding areas, but it's still within the state average.

What people forget is that was shortly after the explosion of cases in New York that caused the hospital ship to be sent there. It ended up not being needed, but news out of there was dire for awhile. People fleeing the cases/lockdowns in New York caused 60% of the spreading that occurred after that. My governor always based decisions on hospitalizations instead of case numbers so we were able to not destroy our economy and didn't have severe lockdowns like you saw in New York and Minnesota.

I thought they already said it's because we're traveling and because people are hoarding. Since we are the demand side, anytime they mention demand they're blaming you.
