Having been through the Carter years and remembering more than a child should, this is going to be that. It'll make 2008 look like a walk in the park. I'm sitting much better financially now than my family was then. I feel sorry for the lower middle class.

If you can, get your money into longterm payments before the rates go higher. Car payments, house loans, even personal loans. The amount you have to pay won't go up so your money retains it's value. Also as wages increase due to inflation you'll still owe the same amount meaning your income increase is a real increase. It's the best way to insulate yourself from what's coming. You should have already done this, but if you haven't you need to before interest rates hit 5%. Edit: If you have a 401k, take a loan out against it. Even if you just use the money to pay back the loan. The market will crash and doing that will protect that amount from losses. We happened to have taken one out right before the 2008 crash and while everyone else lost tons of money and their 401K stagnated, ours saved and grew.

They did print some, but the real culprit is they changed savings accounts. They added them to money in circulation when they hadn't been. Technically they aren't in circulation, but the changing of their status makes it look like there's more money in circulation than there actually is. It's smoke and mirrors. That was to prevent a crash due to the shutdowns. So now it looks like we have trillions in circulation that we don't and the only way to fix it is to slowly remove the money in circulation. Which is going to be neat trick since it's not really in circulation to begin with. That means they're going to have to force people to spend their savings or reclassify them back. I bet everyone can guess which course they're choosing. So it's much more sinister than just printing money.
