@SquarishLink SAT or ACT wasn't required for most colleges when I went, but they were available. You could take an entrance exam that also allowed you to clep some of your basic classes. I was able to skip most of my first 2 years of basic studies. You don't get that with the supposed superior SAT. Then again it was much more difficult to get into college than now because the government didn't guarantee student loans.
