@OriginalBongoliath "Fight for the Fatherland in WWI and WWII". Russia was barely involved in WWI because they had a communist revolution occur. Ukraine had already been taken by the USSR before WWII. So they didn't "sign up to fight for the Fatherland". They were conscripted. After they had been starved. Ukraine broke from the USSR in 1991. At which point Russia promised not to ever invade. Signed that agreement to remove nukes from the country. Ukraine wanted to keep them as a deterrent from an eventual Russian invasion. They don't "speak the same language" either. The official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian just as the official language of Japan is Japanese. So you claiming they're Russian and should be, by force, become a part of Russia again means you're just ignoring the past 100 years of history. Edit: You're also apparently ignorant of Putin's proclamation that anywhere there are Russian speakers belongs to Russia which would include New York because it has a large population of former citizens of the USSR and Russia. He's using the fact that the USSR intentionally mixed up the populations when he took over an area to keep the population fearful of their neighbors. So every country that used to be a part of the USSR has Russian speakers. Meaning he's laying claim to every former Soviet state.

@tylerian4648 Neither does Ukraine so I fail to see the point. He's not taking those two areas and holding. He's invading ALL of Ukraine.

They wouldn't have left and there would be no Ukraine. Then eventually no Poland, no Romania, and on and on. Russian rulers are weighed on their success by how much they expand the borders. Putin is trying to create his legacy before he leaves office. It has nothing to do with what all the Putin fans clamor on about. It's about his legacy and you'd know that if you understood the history of Russia and listened to his speeches. Edit: That's why NATO was created. Not because Russia was communist, but because it's always been expansionist.

@Rachel_M_ Technically you do have only 2 parties. No other party will get enough seats to make a difference or force any type of meaningful coalition. Hell look at Canada. Trudeau's party only got 30% of the vote and he runs it like a dictator because the parties in the coalition don't want to lose power either. It's no different as much as it's claimed to be.
