@RunninUpThatHillh I don't think the government should have bailed them out. That said, it was the government's fault. Policies were put in place to basically force banks to give home loans to people that would never qualify normally. It was for home ownership "equity". To try to protect themselves they pushed fluctuating rate loans. It was also people's fault for choosing those loans over a standard loan and using them to purchase more than they knew they could afford. A lot of credit cards have those same fluctuating interest rates.

They don't "know". They are educated in market forces and how to recognize signs of a market shift. I'm not formally educated in it but can predict market shifts because I have an understanding of how an economy functions. This has been going to happen since the lockdowns. Government spending has kept it artificially afloat with things like the inflation act and Ukraine spending. This was inevitable. You can not practically shutdown an economy for almost 2 years without there being serious repercussions. The full impact of repercussions of government economic policies don't hit for about 10 years give or take. That's why the housing crash was Clinton' fault. It was the direct result of him getting rid of a very serious bank regulation that was there to prevent big swings in the market.

That ain't nothing. This will be my 3rd big recession and several little ones. Oil shortages twice, Iran hostages, massive inflation in the 70s and 80s, bombing by far left groups, a hard reset of the economy, Dotcom bubble, Y2K, embassy bombings, 9/11, 2008 crash, etc. In other words, what you seem to think is unique, isn't. Every generation has been through similar and even worse, and those still alive are continuing to go through it.

@francestaylor9156 That's not true. If that was true for every stock that went up, another stock would decrease the same amount. That doesn't happen. Your're alleging that people selling is what's caused the value to decline. That's not the only thing that does it. The DOW dropping does as does how many people are trying to purchase a particular stock. As long as you're not below the amount you put in, you haven't lost anything because that money was just potential money. It wasn't realized yet and isn't until you sell.
