The best advice I can give is to find someone close that raises cattle. There are a lot of small businesses that do that. If you don't go for organic, they can run in the price range of $3.99-$5.99 per pound. Go in with a friend and you each purchase half a cow. It costs a couple hundred to process it. It will give you enough meat, depending on size of cow and family, to last about 1 year or 1.5 years. Just remember the cost is all up front, but when everyone else is paying $7 or more a lb for the fattest ground beef, your filet cost less than that. Edit: They are usually still grass feed until about the last couple of months when they get put on grain to get good marbling. My family has done this for generations and it's well worth it. It's cheaper and far superior meat then you get at the store.
