@grimaffiliations3671 No. It's technically a double tax because that income has already been taxed to hell and back. It's not "new" income. It's a final tax on their savings after death and prevents upward mobility by way of reducing generational wealth which is the fastest way for a family to move up. My family as an example. We've been poor for hundreds of years. My children remember when we were poor. However because of the wealth my grandparents and me and my husband have accumulated in way of land ownership and investments, our grandchildren will never know what it's like to be poor. They'll escape it entirely and be middle class. An inheritance tax would remove a large chunk of that putting them back down making our efforts wasted. Edit: When it comes to stocks, that's a whole different thing because that's not real. It technically doesn't exist until you sell them. That's why it's called unrealized gains. They are not taxed until sold because until then it's not income.
