  1. The EU as it was first done was fine. As a trade organization and economic union. When it started to try to run the governments of the independent countries and ignore sovereignty is when it became a problem.

  2. Except Kyiv was only really surrounded very briefly. Putin was offered the Donbas to be independent at the very start and refused, demanding complete surrender. So if that was really all he ever wanted he ruined his economy, killed thousands of his soldiers, and wasted billions in military equipment for something he could have had at the start? Plus he's threatening to turn off the gas to Europe which is a move he always goes to as his fail safe plan when negotiations aren't going his way in something. Sorry, I know you think that's what was the plan, but the evidence, movement of troops, and firing of military leaders doesn't show that as true.
