Correction on the charges. They are charged with sedition which is speech inciting people to rebel. An insurrection is the violent rebelling. This charge has only seen conviction 12 times in our history and most of that was the Civil War. First problem is they have to get over the 1st amendment. Then they have to prove an insurrection occurred. Since no one has even been convicted of it, that's another uphill battle. I'm going to say this is strictly a political charge to try to use it in an attempt to bar some Republicans from running for reelection. I think it will fail miserably. I also think if this is how they want to play, gloves off when they lose control of the government.
