I'm definitely thinking there will be a backlash similar to Carter. The country went massively Republican for years after him. Even when Clinton finally took the White House, the majority of the states were still Republican which is why he had to negotiate so much with them. It was that bipartisanship that allowed them to get back to the point they are now.
