@twlandes You know because you know your neighbors. The state should know because they receive benefits. The state has every person's personal information. If you rent, own, pay bills, etc they have access to your name, address, birth date. At the very least, local or county government will have that information. If AARP knows when every person is nearing 50, the government sure as hell does.

@michaels7325 14 states had rolling blackouts because they were all having to ration energy. What happened in Texas reeks of corruption. Entergy shutdown a chemical plant here because it couldn't get below the required energy restrictions. I'm glad Abbott is calling for an investigation. I've seen enough from folks in Houston saying certain areas never lost power, hospitals should be the only ones that didn't, to know it was fishy.

@PennsyltuckyReb People that live in apartments can't do that. They don't have the room and they can't hookup a generator to their apartment. Many did stockpile water and ran it in their bathtubs to prepare. The water froze. Almost all apartments are electric everything so they couldn't use their stove to keep heat. They can't have a wood burning anything either. I would have built a fire in the parking lot, melted snow, and boiled it to have water. It may not be the best quality, but you won't die. I'm not going to be angry at people that simply don't have the space or control to prepare for something like this.

@Whatsa-jaguar-now There are laws that say different. A lot like to reference imminent domain, but the government has to prove they need it and pay you for it. Yes, it's less than market value, but that they have to pay says you own it. If you mean property taxes, some states don't have them.
