I pointed something similar out in another thread that it's very reminiscent of the transition from 70s to 80s movie wise, and probably across all arts eventually. Everything from the 70s was dark and bleak because they were heavily influenced by sentiments about the Vietnam War. It was StarWars that shuck up the industry and moved everything to what it became in the 80s. I think the new Ghostbusters was the first signal audiences sent and Top Gun has been the shove. Smaller studios will be able to react more quickly than larger ones just because of how behemoth the big studios are it takes several years for them to create new stuff.

It's similar to before the 80s. You'd have the occasional movie that wasn't, but most movies were dark and depressing because "the message" then was about Vietnam. It's not that movies before that era didn't tackle similar stuff, like diversity now. It's that those were the movies that got awards and people would go see because they were uncommon. Then you had the silly kids movie no studio wanted StarWars hit theaters and destroy everything else and was extremely popular with the younger generation because it offered hope and pretty clear good vs bad. That movie sparked and started the renaissance that would become the 80s. You saw a lot of big studios get significantly smaller or even disappear and new ones emerge. Top Gun: Maverick is that potential movie now that shakes up the industry. Even the newest Ghostbusters will probably be attributed to it as well in the future. That's basically where we are in the cycle right now. Zaslav has picked great timing in the moves he's making and you'll see a lot of these companies either shift or become insignificant in the next few years as others, like DW, step in to replace them.
