@thisusernameisalreadytaken5132 It depends on how far they deviate from the source material. Rings of Power is a good current example. They've completely changed almost all the characters and removed what made those characters special and important. They've added new characters, even sisters that didn't exist, for no reason other than for diversity. There's a big difference in adding things that contribute and move the established story forward and basically writing a completely different story minus the ending. There are hundreds of current fantasy books available that would be exactly what they're trying to turn Tolkien's work into.

@noylj1 The book was better than the movie. Him being a wrestler was my favorite part and they completely changed the ending.

In a movie series that completely revolves around a single family it does matter who's in it. Nic's character doesn't have any children so there's no set up to move it to another person already in place. This idea that continuity isn't important is why movie franchises are failing.
