huckle berry That's the way I always understood it. It was to let culture be accessible to people who couldn't afford things like the opera or concerts and to keep the people informed on what was going on around the UK. When the shows were just popular culture things not political things.

@hashibirainosuke622 I loved it then! Like Kneon said, we'd get it in the states on PBS. Now we have BBC and I don't care for it much. PBS here still runs some of the old shows at night and I often try to catch them.

@stillbuyvhs It's not paid for by federal taxes anymore but it does receive some grants and a small amount of some state taxes.
